MY 100 th post!!!

Wow, 100 blips into my consciousness, trails through my imagination and peeks into my realm of reality. I pride myself on being and celebrating my eccentric personality. I've tried to tie myself down to a "preppy mom" style but my avant guard eye catches a unique look and I'm hook line and sinker. I keep things calm and respectful, I kind of like to try to go for a sophisticated chic mom look. You can take the gal out of the mom but not the mom out of the gal. I've been having a lot of fun this past week, with the nice weather but I'm really looking forward to Summer!!!

Remember to honor yourself and your needs as you care for others:)

Eat your veggies!

Have you been eating your extra 3 servings of fruits and veggies? I'm realistic, people don't really"love" fruit and veggies, that way asking you to add 3 servings is realistic and doable. If you already eat 3 to 4, adding the 3 extra will help you feel that much better. If you already eat a lot of bunny food (yea for you!!) try to add a vegetarian meal into your diet. If not, start now, it's not too late. Make the choices fun take a big plate and pile on red leaf lettuce, cucumbers, feta cheese and dressing. Look in the blog archives for my pumpkin muffin recipe, or cheesie spinach bars. Make a fruit salad, grab a handful of raisins, dried cranberries, or my fave cherries. Make a smoothie with a banana, berries, yogurt, tofu and some milk (almond milk is good). Eat apple slices with peanut butter. Add berries and sliced banana to a bowl of granola for breakfast.

I took my boys and Alex's friend Matt to Ann Arbor on Thursday, then to the ice cream social at school, Friday we went roller skating after school, Satrday we had yoga, skate park and a birthday party. I'm wiped out!

I'll curl up with a book I've been trying to finish and relax. Find some peace in your day!

my space

I feel like a dinosaur! I just got a myspace page myspace.com/ytrish. I had an awesome week, no kids fighting over the TV! It was Power down electronics week. We have played bingo, connect 4, war, chess, bunco, and cleaned up the yard.

Dalai Lama

My sister and I had a wonderful day today! We attended a lecture on happiness, compassion and the causes of suffering. The basic position that the Dalai Lama took was that we are able to control and choose our suffering, much of it related to choices we make and our desires polluting our ability to be still and empty. We shopped at our favorite galleries and stores in downtown Ann Arbor and went to lunch. We went to 16 Hands and Peaceable kingdom, Crazy Wisdom book store and a shop that I forget the name of that sells rocks, jewellery and the like. I got some Amber earrings, Tibetan prayer flags, a foot reflexology card, incense and a sage bundle to purify my home. The best part of the day was being able to enjoy time with my big sis.

Mocha's new haricut

Isn't he a fancy fine fella?

Maple Nut Goodies

My Grandmother passed away when I was 11, but I remember her like she is still with us. Little things I see, smell, or taste remind me of her and the time we spent together. I bought a bag of Maple Nut Goodies today, they were her favorite candy. They are so good, I can't stop eating them. Pretty soon the Lilacs will be in bloom, she had many in her yard. They are so fragile, smell so wonderful and are so fleeting that you have to pay real close attention to them, or you'll miss them until next spring. I remember that I was about 7 years old and decided to climb the Lilac bush in her alley. I broke the branch and came crashing down.

Live in Bliss

Spring has sprung!

My babies have arrived!! For my entire adult life cooking and gardening, reading about cooking and gardening and experimenting with both have been my biggest passions until I found yoga. I still get warm fuzzies when my first flowers of spring arrive. We'll see how many survived the squirrels.

Enjoy the sun!

Butternut Squash Gnocchi

My kids will not eat squash in the nude so I adapted a recipe that I had at Vinology in Ann Arbor. They eat so many of these that we joke that they are lead balls.

Half and scoop seeds out of a butternut squash, place in glass pan and roast at 350 for 1 hour. Scoop flesh from skin and place in electric mixer bowl.

Click on comment to post your success story! No matter how small a success is, it is an accomplishment toward a larger goal. Just like working up to a difficult pose, take little bits and master them. No pyramid in Egypt was built with one stone.

Rotator cuff info

http://www.yogajournal.com/lifestyle/1102?print=1

This is a yoga journal article pertaining to rotator cuff injury, recovery and how to modify your yoga to accommodate the level of strength that you are capable of.

We discussed how to keep munchers away from gardens (tulips and hostas), try spreading mothballs around tulips, they stink and stay stinky for a while (keeps squirrels and rabbits away). i mixed egg white and water with cayenne pepper in a spray bottle and sprayed my hostas, it may help keep them from becoming some one's lunch!

See ya tomorrow!

I got 2 pounds of lusciously plump dried cherries from my United Natural Foods divide yesterday. They are so rich and moist, way better than candy! I'm out of my funk and so happy to see the sun!! I love it that we're done with sports for a bit and I get to focus on my garden and my yoga! Find a way to take time for yourself and do something you really enjoy!
