New challenge

Last weeks challenge was to improve or expand on all of the prior challenges that you participated in, just a little more! Conservation in addition to recycling is one way to expand and grow. Open yourself to recognize opportunities, look for ways to take your focus off yourself and reach out to others.

My sister and I are going to see the Dali Lama speak in Ann Arbor on April 19th at 10am. Tickets are still available at Ticket Master.

This week's challenge is to share your growth with someone. I ran into another mom from my kids school yesterday at Kroger. We worked on some projects together and I consider her a friend. When I started taking yoga classes in October 2005, and felt an improvement I shared this with her. She told me of her chronic back pain as of a result of bad fall. She gained 80 pounds! I encouraged her to try yoga at Lifetime. With my background working in physical rehabilitation at U of M, I frankly told her that she needed to loose the weight. She agreed and told me that she would work on it and then come to yoga. She changed her diet, took aqua classes at LTF and lost the 80 pounds and has kept it off for 1 year! She looks amazing and has much less pain and more energy! I invited her to my class, she said she was ready! Stories like this make me so proud of the power we have to encourage others.

Happy February 29th!

I can only say this every 4 years. We have several weeks until the official start of Spring, hang in there!~ As I've challenged my students to improve their lives a little at a time, so too have I. I am of the school of thought that lives and teaches by example. By the way, my kids loved the DIA, we'll have to go back, it was too much to take in in one day! Have a glorious day!

What I ate part 1

I eat as much organic as possible.

Yesterday I fasted until 1pm (coffee only),then I had a low carb wrap, with sliced red peppers, low fat turkey and full fat ranch dip, fruit and fiber bar. For a snack I had a small bowl of pinto beans and orange juice. For dinner I had Roschti potatoes (so good!) fish, green beans and tea. I had 4 -6 chocolate foil wrapped Easter egg candies, tons of baby carrots and ranch dip, a mozarella cheese stick and more H2O!

Today I had coffee and a peice of whole grain toast with cream cheese at 8am, fasted until 1 pm then had a low carb wrap after yoga class with butter, a cheese stick, then I got Kentucky Fried Chicken, potatoes, macaroni and biscuits! The kids wanted it and I caved. It tasted very good but I don't feel good now. I need to go and eat some veggies and fruit.

Tomorrow I'll have oatmeal with raspberries for breakfast.

Go play outside!

That's an order! Make snow angels, go sledding and catch snowflakes on your tongue. Behave like a kid, whether or not you have one!

Moonlight Madness

Hi everyone, I hope you got to witness the lunar eclipse last night. I was driving home from subbing Anna's yoga class in Novi (my third that day) and saw it about halfway through. I rushed home, to find my husaband and kids ready to go outside. We bundled up and stood together looking at the moon. We went back in and came out about 6 times to catch different phases. We stayed until it was complete and saw the beautiful pulsing light eminating from the moon. I know that they will never forget it, although it may be along the lines of "my crazy mother, still dressed in her yoga clothes made us go outside, at 9:15 to 10:00 like 6 times to look at the moon and stars!" Hey, they got to stay up late on a school night!

Have a great day and wish me luck as I prepare for hosting Bunco tonight! For those of you who aren't familiar with Bunco, it's a dice game with perks! 12 girlfriends lots of food and spirits. Who could ask for more?

Culture baby!

I've been really wrapped up in other projects lately. Our challenge was to invest a little time indulging in a cultural exploit. We're visiting the DIA next Saturday, I can't wait to see the new space! Many people don't know that the DIA is a world class museum, with an extensive collection. Our last challenge was to reach out to a person in need, to show them someone cares. Before that we were encouraged to meditate for five minutes per day. Absolute peace and silence. Once you get in a meditative space, you will make sure to make time for it.
