New line of yoga inspired jewelery coming soon!

One of my earliest interests was in jewelery. I wore my mother's rhinestone earrings to kindergarten. The teacher thought they were a bit much to wear with my cable knit sweater. My husband is an amazingly talented sculptor and is one of the best miniature sculptors in the world. He used to own a small jewelery store with his brother, and then closed it to work designing international consumer products. He has reignited his interest in making jewelery and we have developed a line of charms, bracelets and pendants that support a balanced way of life. The classical designs are of the highest quality and are all made in the USA in small batch castings in the lost wax method. Keep your eyes peeled for the release.

flu and the fall

Oh yea I got it good last Thursday. I was at work, writing ISO 9001:2008 procedural documents when a wave of nausea came over me. It did not help that the office manager smoked and the nausea was triggered by a whiff of the second hand stench that drifts off a smokers breath. Within minutes a headache and then vomiting set in. Six classes canceled, three that I had to teach and three that I planned on taking. Still nauseated and not trusting my senses at this point. Food is aversive at best and I am so craving a good class, but I know that I don't have the energy for it yet.

I love the fall, the colors changing, wearing real clothes, not feeling sticky, apples and cider (donuts too). Then the sick bugs come around. Time to buff up the immunity and eat more garlic!!

Stay well and live in love!!!!

Homemade Granola Bars

I baked up a batch last night with the intention of eating one. They are dangerously delicious and healthy too, so I nibbled into today instead of doing a three day cleanse. I will wait until they are gone. he he he

Crash of reality

Life seems so brutally loud and harsh once out of a meditative space. It is almost unbearable at times. Tuning inward has it's benefits and challenges as well. Following a three day meditation weekend, it was like entering a carnival as I stepped into the house.

Just breathe!

This heatwave is killing my desire to practice as I am so hot already, and not feeling great. The last thing I want to do is sit in a steamy room. Chilly yoga sounds so good right now!

Post what you eat diet! Day 5!!!

Amazing ability to pre-cognize what I am going to eat! This is the key, as the mind matter most and we become what we think!! I am able not to eat the refined sugars and flours, and am still eating low glycemic foods after 5 days!!!

The most important thing I have learned is to examine my triggers and to come into my breath more and not "default" back to the sugar pacifiers that I have turned to for the last 20 years!!!

So happy!!! Please join me! Look to the link at the right and join me on FB:)

post what you eat diet!

Not a real diet to speak of, just serves as a little reminder that you have to post what you eat and therefore think about what you eat. Really think about what your health and nutrition goals are, pose them and what you eat.

For 4 days I have been refined sugar, flour free and on low-glycemic foods. I find that I am able to think out what I am going to eat and avoid the "mindless" grazing. Join me!

Low glycemic day

Wow is it difficult not to nosh on crackers! I juiced again today, creating an interesting concoction: strawberry, cucumber, celery and carrot. Not the tastiest but low in sugar. Thank God for stevia, I do not miss sugar and honey in my tea at all. It took a little while to get used to the taste but it is fine now.

Low glycemic food relevation

I am completely horrified to learn that the "healthier" brown rice pasta that I have been buying is triple the glycemic index than the whole wheat pasta. I also learned that corn chips are far worse than potato chips.

the greatest compliment

A newer participant of the donation classes told me that she really enjoyed my class because I explain things so she can understand how and where she should be feeling sensations. It was the huge smile on her face that told me that I was getting my point across.

This makes me so happy, to help her find a sense of joy in yoga.

Enough said!

Donation yoga class changes

Schedule shifts as the oceans ebb and flow. Here is the schedule for now: Tuesday and Friday at 9 am. Miss Harriet's dance studio, downtown Northville in the Northville square mall.

Gentle yoga with an Anusara influence. This is the yoga of attention to alignment and finding how to deepen your experience.

work stress and yoga

Oh man, my real "job" is killing my motivation to do anything else! I really enjoy it, but I am tired after working all day..

I am still teaching all my yoga classes too, so I am pooped! I feel like I need to dive into my practice more than ever!

I was supposed to go to a class tonight but forgot about a meeting on sexuality and intimacy for parents of 4th to 8th graders. Many parents blamed "society" and "culture" on their childrens decline into moral apathy. My question is who provides the source of the culture and their exposure to society..........they DO! Man how frustrating, take responsibility, check your kids facebook accounts, monitor their internet exposure and texting...Basically PARENT your children.

Will practice now, Ciao

Truth

The truth is not pretty, funny or sad...it is real. Reality is the absence of delusion, confusion and judgment.

Partner Yoga

3 classes and a lot of flexibility later and starting to feel like a grasp of the style is trickling into the brain.

Class #1 Moses (Michael Kulp) in November, Thai massage and Flying yoga, fun and amazingly difficult.

Class#2 Annie F. at the Yoga Shelter last night. 2 hours of almost brutally difficult postures and a whole lot of fun!

Class#3 Johnny Kest tonight. So deep and mind calming, still in a daze!

Recommendation is to take as many as you can to experience it all. All 3 classes were completely different and amazing experiences!

yoga website vs blog

The yoga-poses-and-beyond.com website has way more organized information. To find it, scroll down and find the picture of me on the right side of the screen, just click on me. This blog is a rambling of personal experiences, kind of like a mental safe deposit box. Sometimes "unloading" the brain is cathartic. Both are updated and a new blog has been added for more ramblings of a suburban soul. It is Tales of a suburban life, it is here on blogspot and easy to find by going to the profile link and scrolling down to the bottom. Blogs are listed, just click.

Finding balance

Balance or equanimity are the goal of yoga. Balance in mind, body and spirit. Finding balance requires the ego to be set aside and the universal goodness to take primary precedence.

EGO EGO where are thou not an EGO

EGO is the manifestation of an attachment to the sense of self. My goal is to eliminate the I from my oral and written vocabulary. This will be a challenge but will make a sense of presence and attention to detail a must! Wish luck this way...see trying already!

Effortless effort

My teacher made an observation of my "effortless effort" during class today. I felt as if I was not trying but just enjoying each breath to it's fullest and each posture to it's maximum. I left the vinyasa class completely refreshed and exhilarated. In the past I left the class feeling physically exhausted and so tired that I had to sleep for a few hours after. The difference was that I used to "try" too hard and never let the softness in. I was too physically competitive and used up too much energy. There is a concept of economizing energy during a practice. I found that today like never before! I love being able to learn and grow with each new experience!!

I made excellent vegetarian burritos for dinner today, I was famished and really enjoyed the spiciness of the soy choritzo and the creaminess of the re fried beans. Warm, soothing comfort foods are the perfect cure-all for cold winter nights!

Yoga as an inward journey

The greatest benefit of yoga has been the ability to tune inward and disassociate from the environment. This is a double edged sword to some extent as I have become very sensitive to noise, noxious smells and over stimulation. It is almost as if my brain has "reset" to a calmer place. Our last girl's night out dancing left me craving a cup of tea and a snuggle with my puppies...far cry from my dancing until 2 am days.

Calm, quiet contemplation.

Yoga Day USA

Hey Yogis! Check out local classes at studios and Yoga Day USA affiliated events! All good studios offer either a free class or a community class to bring yoga to the community, without putting payment first. This is my commitment to my community by bringing donation classes to the greater Plymouth area. It is called Karma yoga, selfless service to others.
